Tesla Model S

The all-electric Model S is Tesla’s second model and shares the technology and dynamics pioneered in the Roadster. It is twice as efficient as hybrids.

With seating for five adults and two children, plus additional luggage space under the bonnet, Model S has passenger carrying capacity and versatility comparable to SUVs and minivans. Rear seats fold flat, and the hatch gives way to a roomy opening, with more than ample capacity for the entire family and their gear.

Base price of only $49,900

Tesla say that the Model S is ‘the world’s first mass-produced vehicle offering performance, efficiency and unrivalled utility for a base price of $49,900 after a federal tax credit of $7,500 - making it the only car you’ll ever need.’

From LA to San Francisco on one 45 minute charge

There are three battery pack options with ranges of 160, 230 or 300 miles per charge. With the 45 minute, 80% QuickCharge or a 5 minute battery swap, ‘you can drive from LA to San Francisco, Washington to New York or take even longer road trips in about the same time as in a conventional car.’ Standard charging times depend on battery capacity ranging from three to five hours. The battery can charge from 120-volt, 240-volt or 480-volt outlets.

100 percent torque, 100 percent of the time

Model S travels from 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 120 mph. The electric powertrain provides instant torque at any speed resulting in immediate acceleration whenever it’s needed. It offers 100 percent torque, 100 percent of the time without jerky shifting and a fraction of the noise and harshness of internal combustion engines. This smooth and constant power delivery, combined with the sporty handling of the chassis and suspension, leads to a superior driving experience.
The Model S powertrain features a liquid-cooled, floor-mounted battery pack and a single-speed gearbox, delivering effortless acceleration, responsive handling and quiet simplicity.

UK deliveries to start in 2012
