Mega e-City
The Mega e-City is a three door hatchback available as a 2-seater or a 2+2. It is built by Aixam Mega, a manufacturer of ultra light commercial and utility vehicles based in the French Alps.
Aixam Mega produces around 15,000 vehicles a year powered by diesel engines or electric motors for the professional and local authority markets.
The all-electric Mega e-City: designed for London
Aixam-Mega’s experience in compact, lightweight vehicle design was the platform for the launch of the Mega e-City in London in 2007. It is an all-electric city runaround with a top speed of 40 mph, automatic transmission, and the ergonomics and equipment levels comparable with conventional small hatchbacks. The batteries are AGM lead maintenance free. It has zero emissions of CO2 and all other gases. The car has an acrylic body on an aluminium safety frame which is designed to be virtually 100% recyclable.
An electric car that is modern, stylish and dynamic
The e-City is very much a London car. It is agile, simple to drive and park, and looks modern and stylish. It can be charged from a standard 240v socket, a full charge taking about 8 hours providing a range of up to 40 miles. It benefits from the avoidance of the congestion charge and free parking in specified bays. The company has two London locations for service and maintenance but facilities are limited outside the capital.
The e-City is very much at home in urban traffic and its 40 mile range is within commuting distance for many users. It would, however, benefit from the replacement of its current lead batteries by lithium-ion – giving shorter charging times and an extended range.
